Scone Equestrian Centre embraces horse lovers of all abilities, we know firsthand how spending time with horses can be life-changing for people who face daily challenges.
Spending time with horses has multiple benefits, social interaction, fitness, improving fine motor skills, building confidence and improving self-esteem are but a few of the benefits riders gain as they increase their equestrian skills.

A welcoming environment where participants can enjoy meaningful time around animals.
There is no “one size fits all” approach.
Some participants may want to work towards riding independently. Others may need more support with grooming, handling and ground skills. Some may simply enjoy spending time with horses and developing confidence around them.
We adapt activities and the level of support to suit the individual participant.
Our Horse Sessions may suit NDIS participants who:

Want to develop confidence
Want support to participate in horse-related activities
Would like to learn practical skills
Want to develop greater independence
Enjoy being outdoors
Want to learn safe horse handling
May want to ride or may prefer to work with horses from the ground
No previous horse experience is required.

Please note: Services are available for participants who self-manage or plan-manage their NDIS funding.
SUPPORTED RIDING SESSIONS
Learn the complete process of caring for and riding a horse.
Our supported riding sessions aren't just about getting in the saddle. Participants are supported through the full process of working with their horse.
Sessions can include:
Catching and safely approaching the horse
Grooming and preparing the horse
Learning safe ground handling
Picking out hooves
Saddling and bridling
Understanding and using horse equipment
Mounting safely
Learning riding skills suited to the participant
Riding exercises and activities
Untacking after riding
Cooling down and caring for the horse
Brushing, washing or hosing where appropriate
Returning the horse safely
The focus is on developing confidence, practical skills, safe horse handling and independence — not simply riding.
SUPPORTED HORSE INTERACTION
For participants who want to spend time with horses without riding.
Not everyone wants or is able to ride, and that's completely okay.
Participants can be supported to spend meaningful time around horses while developing confidence and practical ground-handling skills.
Activities may include:
Safely approaching horses
Learning horse behaviour and body language
Grooming
Leading horses
Handling horses safely from the ground
Picking out hooves where appropriate
Learning about horse care
Learning about tack and equipment
Helping with feeding and basic horse routines
Building confidence around horses
Spending quiet, meaningful time with the horses
No riding is required.
